Here it Comes... Ready or Not!

It's hard to believe that this is the last blog before Christmas... December has flown by, but it has also been the most laid back Christmas that I've had in a long time, and it feels so good!
I've spent time volunteering where needed, Christmas presents are well on their way to being wrapped, and the shopping is done except for a few stocking stuffers. Oh, it feels good! Did I already say that? Yep... it feels good! I hope you are finding time to enjoy the holidays and feeling peace and joy during this season.
I finally finished the wreath for the front door. I really like how my ribbon came out. Did any of you try my bow making directions in my Color Me Crazy blog? Send pictures if you did!
I found some fun red bells at the Dollar Tree and grouped them in three's with sparkly pipe cleaners to give the touch of red that was needed. I recycled an old wreath that was starting to turn that blueish green that old wreaths do, and mixed lots of accent greenery to create a new look. Works for me!
My Sweet Pea Paisley Wingback is finished!
O.K. This was a tough decision, to take my latest creation to Crescent Hill TRADING COMPANY to sell...
I would LOVE to have had a place in my house for this to fit in, but it wasn't to be. There just wasn't a spot for this great wingback!
I even had to take it in before I finished the lamp and pillows to go with it. I hope you get a chance to go by and check it out!
The Sweet Pea Paisley Wingback is done with two heavy weight cottons - the plaid and the paisley, Red Canvas and, of course, my favorite black and white welting cord.
Don't you think this would make a great start for decorating a room?
Lydia, my cute daughter-in-law and I spent Tuesday of this week visiting Berea for the day. We have started a tradition of going to lunch and shopping together one day during the Christmas season, and I so look forward to that day each year.
We started at the Kentucky Artisan Center where we saw lots of great artwork including some bright colored handbags done by a friend of mine, Marti Brown. These make great gifts... go check them out if you can.
We ate lunch at Boone Tavern Hotel & Restaurant. What a beautiful place to visit and stay while in Berea!
Then we went to Artisan and enjoyed walking in and out of the cute shops in the warm weather. What a delightful day... Berea artist would love to have you visit!!
One of the other things that I look forward to is the Christmas Party at Cedar Lake's Park Place where my brother-in-law, Mike lives.
They love the visit from Santa Claus and Mike just loves to have a microphone in his hands to sing all those Christmas songs he knows by heart!
The excitement that the residents and staff have during this party truly starts the Christmas season for me!
Happy Holidays to all of you! May you enjoy the peace and love of the season and find lots of time for family, friends and laughter!!

A Cold Chicago Adventure!
12/9/2017
Chicago in the Winter!
Two years in a row and this weekend did not disappoint! Four of us headed out with the ONE OF A KIND SHOW as our main destination... and then to do whatever else struck our fancy.
We headed up on Thursday morning with our designated driver... Thanks Patty!! The other three of us had projects in our laps and there is no telling how long it will take to pick up the threads and beads that managed to find their way into the already dirty floorboard. We stopped for a few hours in Indianapolis at the new IKEA and began to fill up the car that had seats removed for mega shopping.
The ONE OF A KIND SHOW had some amazing artists and, if you get a chance to go to one of their shows, I highly recommend it. We picked up business cards for some of the artists we admired, and here are some of my favorites for you to check out.
** You can find Three Wheels Studio art products locally at **
Consider Boutique in Louisville, Kentucky!
It was also fun to see Seth Apter, a wonderful mixed media artist who had his books and some of his work for sale at the show.
Check out his books, The Pulse of Mixed Media and The Mixed-Media Artist. My dream is to one day take a class from him!
We ate at several fun, inexpensive and quick places while there. We ate at the Grand Lux Cafe which was just around the corner from the big Crate and Barrel - which definitely filled our car some more. It was SOOOO good!
And then we ordered room service for our great unhealthy evening meal around cards and rounds of Christmas Carols... let's just say, I won't embarrass the ladies with the videos I took of them and their off tune singing!! And, NO... they weren't drinking, which is even more scary!!
We started Saturday at the Textile Discount Outlet.
I bought fabric there once when I had the store... but the fabric isn't why I wanted to go back. I had also purchased random buttons years before, where I actually sat in the middle of the floor and put them in my bag. The hunt for the bargain was calling and I was feeling the need to refill my stash.
Checkout all this leather stacked up in boxes. So many ideas but I still have so much in the studio to work with.... hmmmm.
This is a messy, old warehouse with just about anything you could want in notions and embellishments. Great for prom dress and formal fabrics. They may be messy but it is a well oiled machine and oh, so very helpful!
So Chicago in Winter makes no sense for a girl who hates the cold...
And for the four of us to decide to walk from our warm Hampton Inn Loyola hotel to the Heartland Cafe in the freezing, slick now was crazy! I was in front, cold of course, but I couldn't resist this picture of the ladies trying to read a map in the snow.
How many ladies does it take to read a map?
Follow me ladies... I have Google Maps!!
Google maps can be a girl's best friend when it's COLD outside!!
The artwork on the way was worth the walk, and we did take time to appreciate the beauty of what was around us! Just love the painted underpasses! So many bright colors on a white snowy day.
I love the artwork that was on display in the yard. Unfortunately, I didn't write down where this display was. Can anyone tell me what yard this is in?
The wall below lists all the artists who worked on it. There were the main artists and the contributing artists who, together, brought it to life. It sure would have been fun to watch them work!
The Heartland Cafe was worth the walk. It's a down to earth inviting place with lots of organic and vegetarian options.
This small 'farm to table' restaurant has been in business since 1976 and just recently changed ownership. They're doing good stuff in their neighborhood. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. For me one of the highlights of the trip was this newly found treasure.
They served breakfast at the Hampton Inn Loyola, and we did eat there before heading out to get my breakfast of champions... but I finally met someone who eats a breakfast as crazy as I do!
Whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a little raisin bran tops my chocolate chip cookies and Dr Pepper, any day!!
Now, I do have to confess that when I went through to get my Dr Pepper and TWO cookies, it did expand to 8 cookies by the time the others placed their orders. So.... breakfast was definitely not our most healthy meal!!
We did fill the car and got it all packed up and ready to travel home much to the amusement of the Bell Staff.
So glad these four crazy women could be so entertaining. LOL!
If you are looking for a good place to stay in Chicago, outside of the hustle and bustle, this is it!
Great prices, updated clean rooms, and the staff was over the top friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.
Good bye Chicago... Good memories and lots of fun and laughter until next year!!
I hope you are enjoying your holidays and taking time to appreciate all the good around you. Now I'm off to finish decorating the house for Christmas. I'm almost out of time!!

December Discounts!

I can't believe how fast this year has flown by! I believe that busy people cram as much in a year as they can, and that just makes the time fly. But I wouldn't have it any other way. As Jeff and I look ahead to our plans for January, we know it'll impact all my faithful fabric customers, so I want to give you a heads up and give you a chance to save on your favorite colors and prints!
I will be in South Carolina during the month of January to help Natalie and Brent work on their house - and to enjoy a little warmer weather. The Funky Fibers selling site will be disabled for the month of January so I won't need to worry about getting orders out while away... So I'm offering an extra 10% off our already 30% discounted fabrics during the month of December thru the 29th.
I know this isn't the best time of year to buy fabric for your personal stash, but maybe it would make a great gift for someone you love!
Warm fire... hot chocolate... fabric stash....
if you can't have warm weather, this is the next best thing!!
Thanks Doreen for sharing these great inspiration pictures from Work the Metal in Louisville. I love the painted ends on the logs.
And... what a great idea to do with all the yarns that I purchased this summer. Yarn POM POM's make a fun and inexpensive decorating idea!
This photo of hanging art is one I'm going to store away for future inspiration. It's simply made from cut Birch Branches that have colorful yarn fibers wrapped around them. Sounds like a good backdrop for an event or stage design. Lots of color without much expense. Love these ideas!
I'm looking forward to visiting Work the Metal next week when I get back in town, Hope to see you there!
Share inspiration pieces that you are creating or have seen on your travels by sending them to funkyfibersky@gmail.com
GIRLS TRIP!! Off to Chicago with three other crazy ladies for shopping and playing. Shopping, projects, artwork, eating, walking, lots of laughter and crazy games. Watch next week for links to the places we visit. The reason we are going to Chicago - where we are supposed to have snow while there - is for the ONE OF A KIND Art Show in The Mart that Patty and I went to last year. It was such fun last year that we are braving the cold again for another adventure! Check out last year's Chicago trip!
But... of course I couldn't possibly leave on a trip without a project in hand!
I have another stole order to complete and ship next week so the hand sewing can be done in the car on the way coming and going - or going and coming.
You know, we only have so much time and we all need to use and enjoy all of it...
Love the colors and pattern. Now to start on the beading and stitching.
Hope the holidays are treating you all kindly...
Love this time of year!
