About Me
I've been up to my elbows in beautiful fabrics for most of my life. My love for fabrics led me into studies on textiles and design back in my college days, and then years later, to purchasing my first load of fabric and selling it right out of the family van! That was nearly thirty years ago!
In 1989 I opened to the public with my first 'small' store, Making Ends Meet, in Shelbyville, KY. It became so successful that a larger building was needed to house the ever growing fabric supply, so we moved the store to the corner of Washington & 7th streets where we thrived for more than twenty-five years; serving customers from surrounding states and beyond.
In 2004 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. While recovering from surgery I filled my time with assorted art projects that led to the opening of the STUDIO. This quickly became my 'happy place' and a place where students could join in on an assortment of fun and creative classes. Instructors came in from all over the states to teach various arts such as: beading, sewing, upholstering, metasmithing, jewelry making, doll making, sculpting, 3D arts, painting, and many more multi-media arts. We had a lot of good times in that STUDIO!
All that fun and creative playtime in the STUDIO inspired me to pursue my lifelong dream to design and create high-end one-of-a-kind clothing, accessories, furniture and other items. I started my Funky Fibers & Furniture business and eventually closed out MEM, moving my business to my home studio. You can purchase many of my smaller designs and products on my FunkyFibersKY Etsy site, while my larger furniture and home décor items can be found for sale and on display at Crescent Hill TRADING COMPANY in Louisville, KY.
My calendar seems to be full most of the time with studio projects, out-of-state bargain shopping, eatery outings with friends, art conferences, spiritual retreats, and family. Follow my blog to find out what I'm up to next! Often enough, it's even a surprise to me!!
